THE INVALID TOUCH DETECTION CANCELLATION IN THE FOIL
The StM is the supporter of the cancellation of the invalid touch registration in the foil. It can be said that if the part of the regulation of the FIE executive committee about the cancellation of the invalid touch in the foil is changed there are absolutely no obstacles for implementing the StM wireless system in foil fencing.
There are a lot of reasons for saving the old regulation for fencers with foils, but it should be acknowledged that when the white lamp lights up showing the invalid touch registration, the audience gets very confused and this may lead to misunderstandings. It is also an atavism and a great obstacle on the way of the foil fencing development and fencing in general.
In our opinion, it is ridiculous to say that if the white lamp is reduced, the foil fencing will turn into epee fencing, the technique will be mixed up, and that zest, which distinguishes the foil from other weapon, will disappear, etc. On the contrary, foil fencers will perfect more thoroughly the precision of their touch and improve their techniques. At the end, there will be less stops during the bout, the foil will become more dynamic, which means more entertaining. Isn’t it today’s main factor of development and progress in any sports?
Of course, the audiences’ opinion in this question (as in many others) should be decisive. Neglecting it means dooming oneself to languish on the backseat of world sports and business.
The StM advocates for if not an urgent change of the foil regulations then, in any case, for organization of alternative wireless foil tournaments without registration of invalid touches.
THE PLACE OF BOUT
With the advent of the StM wireless system into fencing, a reasonable question appears: why should the fencers be artificially limited in movements? Why should they move only back and forth?
We think that holding several tournaments where the fencers can move without any limitations is absolutely necessary. More than once we have seen that if the fencers are free to move, then fencing and the bout itself are more of a performance. These bouts cannot leave even an amateur audience indifferent.
We think that the time should judge opponents and supporters of fencing on the strip. After all, why cannot the classical and new fencing exist together at the same time? It is also ridiculous to deny that there will appear those wishing to fence with the StM wireless system and to compete on arbitrary battle grounds... |
